FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WILMINGTON, DE — August 6, 2026
Tanya Associated Business Services (TABS) is proud to announce that the carpenter apprentices in our “Building Blocks with TABS™” Registered Apprenticeship Program have officially passed their Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) exam. We are currently finalizing their certification with the Delaware Division of Public Health.
This achievement is a major milestone for our first cohort of ten 17-year-old students from Howard High School of Technology. These apprentices are now the first youth in Delaware under the age of 18 to reach this professional level. RRP certification is an EPA-mandated requirement for anyone working on residential properties built before 1978 where lead-based paint may be disturbed. As Delaware increases its focus on housing safety through new legislation like HS 2 to HB 70, this certification ensures our apprentices are both legally compliant and technically expert from day one.
Why This Certification Matters
For Our Apprentices
- A Competitive Edge: This credential gives students a distinct advantage, providing the specialized skills required for high-end residential renovations and federally funded projects.
- Safety Leadership: Our apprentices are trained to lead “lead-safe” work practices, helping to eliminate health hazards in our local communities.
- Ready for Work: These students are now fully prepared for the field before they begin their formal employment with TABS on August 24th.
For TABS
- Enhanced Capacity: This milestone strengthens TABS’ ability to deliver high-quality environmental remediation and healthy homes initiatives.
- Proven Excellence: By certifying our workforce early, TABS reinforces its deep commitment to safety and excellence in residential development.
- Empowering the Future: This initiative bridges the industry learning curve and creates high-wage career paths for the next generation of tradespeople.
“We are incredibly proud of these students for their dedication to these critical safety standards,” says Tanya Williamson, Founder and Managing Director of TABS. “This certification is more than just a credential; it is a cornerstone of their professional foundation and a vital asset as we build safe, sustainable housing for families across New Castle County.”
